Sometime in 1997 I had the idea to do the last painting of the 20th century . As the end of the age approached my desire increased - during the summer of 1999 - and I simultaneously opened and dedicated my studio. After completing several pieces it was now December and I still didn't have a clue as to what I was going to paint. I began to pray fervently that if He wanted me to do this thing that He give me the image soon.
In between Christmas and New Years (on a Tuesday) the Lord showed me in prayer the empty tomb and my feeling was that that image has sustained the church for 2000 years! But I wasn't sure if it was the one. Later that night I viewed for the first time The Jesus film and at the end was an image almost identical to the one I saw that morning!
On New Year's Eve it was completed at 11:59:59 on December 31st, 1999. And so this is and forever will be the last painting of the millennium.
Some friends of mine commented that they saw an angel standing guard on one side and a cherub in flight on the other. And my wife said she saw the face of Jesus in the shadows between the columns.
